D. Sheehan Sr. February 20, 2011 Alfred Dennis Sheehan Sr., of East Syracuse,
died Sunday at Sunnyside Nursing Home. He was born in Plainfield, NJ, on July
9, 1928, to Owen and Caroline Worching Sheehan. He served proudly in the
United States Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of sergeant
first class. Al spent the next 23 years with the Syracuse Police Department.
Among his many duties was teaching vehicle and traffic law and accident
investigation in the Police Academy. He received many citations and awards
for his work in accident reconstruction and investigation. After his
retirement, he served as director of safety for Centro as well as chairman of
the Onondaga County Traffic Committee. He was the founder of Sheehan's
Driving Academy. He was a member of the Syracuse Police Benevolent
Association, Eastwood American Legion Post 1276 and a communicant of St.
Matthew's Parish in East Syracuse. He is survived by his wife of 58 years,
Rita Masucci Sheehan; three sons, Alfred Dennis Jr. (Nora), Kenneth D. (Lynn)
and Michael O. (Chantal); as well as six grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at St.
Matthew's Church in East Syracuse. Contributions may be made to St. Matthew's
